Continued membership of the European Union

Conference notes that the European Union is the worlds largest single market, and is the largest destination for Scotland's international exports. Conference further notes the role of the European Social Fund and Regional Development Fund investing in Scotland, its Cities and its people.

Conference believes that our membership of the European Union creates jobs and provides opportunities for all of our people. Conference also believes that Europe has developed the rights of working people throughout the European Union, with measures such as the European Working Time Directive and European Health and Safety legislation. Conference further believes that Europe can become a closer union, and more democratic and accountable to the people it serves.

Conference therefore resolves to:

a) argue for positive change to bring the EU and its people closer.

b) argue and emphasise the benefits of Britain's continuing membership of the European Union.

c) advocate a Yes vote to remain within the European Union.
